VSNL, which has got peerings with MSN, whereas Airtel Broadband connects via Sprint.

Good fences make good neighbors (at least valid in case of Internet)

  1. Microsoft might be using several lines from diff ISP’s for load balancing ………

    That’s why diff route. Also VSNL uses international backbone …..

  2. I guess, you’ve not understood the actual issue. It is not about peering. It is about packets from RFC1918 addresses floating from one AS to another AS. WTF This sucks bigtime. [hint: check 9th hop in 1st traceroute output.]

  3. Ok, so you want to say that packets are jumping from one class to another class. Is it so ?

    I want to ask one more thing , I stared tracert in my windows system to msdn.microsoft.com. The packet didn’t seem to have reached the destination.

    When I pinged the site, it gave time out reply, I copied the resolved ip address from the prompt and punched to firefox and it opened the page.

    My question is this, can you block pings as well as tracert and still have the server up ?

    No, I didn’t intend to say that. I suggest you should read RFC1918.

    Ofcourse, you can block any protocol, while allowing any other protocol.
